Our Story

Why We Built Code Purple

Code Purple began during one of the most difficult chapters of our family’s life.

When our son Andrew was hospitalized at Western State Hospital, “Code Purple” was the hospital call used when a patient was in crisis and staff assistance was needed. Andrew heard those words during his years there, and they eventually took on a different meaning for us.

Andrew continued creating throughout his hospitalization, writing songs, recording music, making art, and finding a way to express things that were often impossible to put into ordinary words.

We chose Code Purple because we wanted to transform a phrase associated with crisis into one associated with creativity, hope, recovery, and purpose.

Code Purple Deals grew from that idea. Today, we share original art, music, poetry, and wearable designs created by people who see and experience the world differently.

CODE PURPLE — What once meant crisis now means creation.
